OTHER Field superiority, ball possession and chances galore, yet it was via a penalty kick that Anderlecht put the deserved equalizer on the board. Afterwards, questions were raised here and there as to whether the penalty kick was justified.

You can watch the footage below this post. Referee Erik Lambrechts first gave a corner kick. However, the VAR called him to look at the footage, after which Lambrechts put the ball on the spot.

"There was indeed contact, but Gueye touches the ball first and only then is there the contact," RWDM coach Claudio Cacapa told television cameras after the game.

RWDM players William Klaus and Xavier Mercier were not soft on referee Lambrechts. "The referee was not favorable to us and that affected the result," Klaus said. Mercier continued, "Crazy that the Anderlecht players on the field didn't believe it was a penalty kick at first. But yes, the big clubs are often favored in Belgium."

Mercier was also unhappy about Camara's second yellow card. "It was eighty meters from our goals and not even a dangerous foul," Mercier said. "Oh well, everyone saw how the referee whistled. We know how things are in Belgium. During preparation for matches, we even take it into account."
