Although he was in the pre-selection, Killian Sardella did not receive a first invitation to the Red Devils on Friday. After the game against Cercle Brugge, the right-back was frankly straightforward: ‘Of course I'm disappointed. I had expected to be there.'

‘It's the coach's choice,' Sardella said. ‘I have nothing to blame myself for. I performed well in recent weeks and even last season. I will keep working to show that I am the best.'

According to the national coach, he also wants to give the U21 every chance to qualify for the European Championship against the Czech Republic. Sardella is an important pawn in that team. ‘I don't know. I see that some important players - especially in the attacking compartment - are still called up for the A-team. But if that's what he says, then I believe him.'

Sardella was also probed by Cameroon, but opting for the African country is not an option. ‘I know what I want,' he refers to the Belgian national team. ‘This non-selection will not discourage me. Disappointments like this don't affect me. It's an extra motivation boost. Mentally, I am strong enough to overcome this.'
