OTHER At the Pro League general assembly, the professional clubs reached an agreement on the TV contract for the next five years. DAZN, the current rights holder, has reacquired the broadcasting rights for Belgian professional soccer, but is paying a lower sum than in the previous contract from 2020. The new contract, worth at least 91 million euros per season, includes live rights for several leagues and events, including the Jupiler Pro League and the Croky Cup. In addition, the Pro League is entitled to a share of DAZN's additional revenue.
The value of the media contract has decreased significantly (-12 million) compared to the previous contract, which is not surprising given the trend in other countries.
Lorin Parys, CEO of the Pro League, stressed the importance of media rights for fans and clubs and the need to improve innovation and accessibility.
Philippe Bormans, CEO of Union, spoke of a unique unanimous approval of the agreement by all clubs and indicated that the lower amounts were within expectations.
In the coming months, the distribution key for the clubs and the league format will be further discussed.
