New pitch under construction

OTHER Operations are currently underway to renew the pitch. This is a temporary solution until the end of the season. The club has had the top layer excavated and is currently restoring this top layer. On top of that, natural grass will be laid coming from Turin (Italy). The work will cost about 300,000 euros. The first home match, against Club Brugge, will thus be played on a completely new field.

It is not the first time Anderlecht has had to deal with problems with the turf. In the past, the pitch was already affected by a bacterium and the limited air flow through the stadium also had a negative influence. The current problems are said to be caused by excessive salt content that was in the sand that was previously spread out to fix other problems. Since the start of the season, there had been complaints about the poor playing conditions this way.

In the summer, this temporary new field will be excavated again and a more structural solution will follow. A field consisting of natural sod with synthetic fibers woven into it will then most likely be provided. This will provide improved strength and durability. This operation will once again cost a chunk of money, around one million euros.
