INTERVIEWS David Hubert was not looking for too many excuses after the defeat in Plzen. He realized that his team had fallen short in all areas.
Hubert saw how Anderlecht was physically overpowered from the start of the match. “Almost all first and second balls were lost,” said Hubert, who also said the scoring ability was very low.
Hubert did refer to the wretched pitch as an excuse that prevented Anderlecht from playing soccer. He called the phase leading up to the 2-0 crucial to the course of the match. “We kicked the ball blindly in front at that moment which allowed them to set up an attack.”
Hubert acknowledged that the team should have dealt with the situation faster and put less risk in the game. He also admitted that things did not improve in the second half.
Hubert was also quick to look ahead again. He paused to reflect on the good trajectory in Europe this season and that Purple White must now learn from what happened today. He stressed that Anderlecht still has the fate of being in the top eight in their own hands and that they will get a second chance for that next week.
