GAMES A weak Anderlecht lost yet again. Gent won 1-0 thanks to a gaffe by goalkeeper Kikkenborg early in the match. Anderlecht did not do much and had to continue with ten players after half an hour after a double yellow card for N'Diaye. Anderlecht only came on at the end of the match when Gent was reduced to ten players. However, Roef saved two chances from Vazquez. With this lousy level, purple and white must fear for Play-off I.
Anderlecht left a very weak impression in the first half. It started incredibly weak again and soon swallowed a goal after a gaffe by goalkeeper Kikkenborg. The Dane tried to combine under pressure and the ball ended up with Ito, who gladly accepted the gift. Anderlecht responded briefly through Huerta, but Gent simply showed more willpower and dueling power. Samoise, for example, was dangerous several times.

The Senegalese was seriously provoked on corner by Samoise and Mitrovic and walked into the trap of the Ghent players. Verboomen was very strict in his judgment, though. Funnily enough, the red card did not really have a big impact on the match. The weak purple and white were now allowed to try with ten. Verschaeren, the only one at some level before halftime, came close to the equalizer. A curled free kick from long range was tapped against the crossbar by Roef.
Hazard and Vazquez came on immediately after halftime, but nothing changed in the game, although Gent did create a bit of a threat now and then. Anderlecht played with five men at the back in ball loss and tried to break out sporadically. Hazard was able to strike once, but his breakaway shot lacked the right direction.
A quarter of an hour before time, Lopes was yellowed twice, leaving Gent with one man less. Anderlecht tried to change tack, but it was difficult to create real danger. In the added time, the purple and white still had two chances. Vazquez came close to drawing the 1-1 draw twice, once with a header and once with a shot, but Roef saved each time.
Thus, Anderlecht again delivered a very weak performance in 2025 against an opponent who also lost a lot of points the last few weeks. A crucial week awaits Anderlecht with the double confrontation against Antwerp. If the level is not urgently raised, reaching Play-off I is not a certainty with still matches against Antwerp, Union, Charleroi and Standard, among others.
