Stroeykens: 'Group supported Dendoncker in difficult moments'

INTERVIEWS Leander Dendoncker celebrated his goal against Antwerp by tucking the ball under his shirt and sticking his thumb in his mouth. The midfielder thus made it clear that he will soon become a dad again. “We knew nothing about it. He surprised us all,” Mario Stroeykens commented.


“After the game, he told us in the locker room that his wife Anna is expecting a second child,” Stroeykens said. “Of course we congratulated him. That news made our celebration that night even better.”

Stroeykens is happy for Dendoncker that he scored the qualifying goal. “Leander didn't have the easiest weeks of his career, with all the criticism. The group never gave up on him. We supported him in his difficult moments and he repaid us by scoring the qualifying goal. We showed that we are a close-knit group, both in good times and in hard times.”
