INTERVIEWS In the absence of the suspended Killian Sardella, Ali Maamar was favored over Thomas Foket for the match against Charleroi. The young Moroccan international, who was recently retrained to the position of right back, feels very comfortable and is determined to prove his worth to the team. “I want to do everything I can to fill role as a back correctly,” he said. In the dressing room he is rather quiet, but he tries to overcome this barrier as soon as he comes on the field.
He is aware that Anderlecht's technical staff will follow his performance closely: “But I work hard and that's why I'm not surprised by my selection over Foket. I am not better than other players but my self-confidence grows every day.”
In addition, he is part of Morocco's U20 squad, where he is again working with his former youth coach Mo Ouahbi. Maamar hopes to participate in the U20 Africa Cup, which takes place from the end of April to the end of May. However, this period is crucial for Anderlecht, and David Hubert is not keen on the possibility of Maamar leaving during this important phase. The club management's final decision on this is still pending, but the chances seem slim that he will be allowed to participate in the tournament during the Champions Playoffs.
