INJURIES Jan Vertonghen is all set to make his reappearance. According to Het Nieuwsblad, he was disappointed that he was not yet allowed to come in at Charleroi. Physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalck assisted Vertonghen during his rehabilitation and saw great doggedness.
“The dedication Jan showed is phenomenal,” Maesschalck told Het Nieuwsblad. According to the physiotherapist, it was a complicated injury to Vertonghen's Achilles tendon. “But he rehabbed very consistently to get back to the very highest level. He doesn't want to disappoint anyone, especially his team.”
For Maesschalck, Vertonghen is ready for the final spurt toward the end of his career. Or is he? “It's important for Jan that he doesn't have to make a forced choice,” the physiotherapist said of a possible soccer retirement. “He wants to be able to choose freely. He will only be able to judge when he is back on the field and feels how he is doing.” According to Maesschalck, Vertonghen will then make a decision in all honesty. “He will not lie to anyone. Not himself and certainly not his team.”
