OTHER This week is only the second week since David Hubert took over as head coach that Anderlecht has not played a midweek game. That busy calendar had major consequences. “It was almost impossible to prepare for a match on the training pitch,” farewell video analyst Gauthier Vanderloock told me. “We had to make do with theory based on images.”

Hubert sometimes has Anderlecht play with a four-man defense and sometimes with a five-man. “That depends on the opponent,” Vanderloock told Het Nieuwsblad.

According to Vanderloock, the busy schedule meant there was no time to properly practice the different variations on the training pitch. Based on video footage, the players had to rehearse and master the system. “Now that we are eliminated from Europe, David does have time to put the theory into practice on the training field,” Vanderloock said.

With so many games, Vanderloock and his team had a lot and important work to do. He tells how on Tuesday they looked back at Sunday's game. Then Wednesday there was an analysis of Thursday's European opponent. Thursday that was repeated a bit more. Friday there was a review of that European match or we match of the weekend already discussed. Saturday then followed an analysis of Sunday's opponent. “The latter in group, by line or individually,” Vanderloock said.
