OTHER David Steegen (58) has been appointed the new press chief of the Belgian national soccer team. He succeeds Stefan Van Loock (64), who has retired. Steegen, who headed RSC Anderlecht's communications department for more than a decade, left the club in the summer of 2022. In recent years, Steegen has coached several athletes with his communications company, including soccer players Johan Bakayoko and Zeno Debast, as well as cyclist Remco Evenepoel.
With his new position at the Belgian Football Federation, however, he can no longer personally work with Bakayoko and Debast, as they are now also part of the national selection, which could create a conflict of interest.
Steegen will bear the official title of “Sports Communication Manager” and will be responsible for daily contacts with the press. In addition, he will support national coach Rudi Garcia during the press conferences taking place this month.
