YOUTH As part of the new league formula, the rule that four U23 teams must always compete in 1B was also approved. Therefore, if no one promotes from the amateur series, no one will play for relegation. For Futures coach Jelle Coen, this rule should not have been necessary.

‘We were not asking for this rule,' Coen told Het Nieuwsblad. The coach stressed that he prefers to ensure retention on sporting grounds. Indeed, he even finds the pressure of relegation instructive. ‘The existing rules make us realise that we need to step up a gear,' he said.

The Futures were at the bottom of the standings for a long time, but picked up a lot of points in recent matches. Now, Jong Genk are in last place. It was Genk that used the new rule as a means of pressure to agree to the news league formula.
