INTERVIEWS Anderlecht travel to Westerlo today and will face an old acquaintance with Amando Lapage. Although he could have re-signed with purple-white in January, he opted for a transfer to the Kempen. ‘Amando wanted a step up from the Futures and I can understand that,' said Anderlecht coach David Hubert.

‘I have known Amando for several years,' Hubert began at his press conference this afternoon when asked about Lapage. ‘We still played together at the Futures. We had a very good contact and I greatly appreciate the person and player he is. Of course, the context at Anderlecht is different than at Westerlo or any other club.'

‘Amando has been playing at the Futures for two years and is of value there. But he has ambitions to step up. That is understandable. He realises he needs a lot of playing minutes. We wanted to offer him that through that contract extension, but in the first team we cannot give anyone certainty about a certain number of playing minutes.'

‘It is more likely that he will get more playing minutes elsewhere,' Hubert said. ‘Amando made a choice to build his career. He has a lot of potential. I wish him all the best. As of Monday,' Hubert winked.

The coach is not at all resentful that Lapage did not take up the contract extension Anderlecht offered him. ‘It's his choice. We have to appreciate that.'

Lapage has so far played 26 minutes at Westerlo. On 16 February, he was allowed to come in against Cercle Brugge. The next two games he did not come off the bench.
