Vertonghen: “Taking game to higher level”

INTERVIEWS Jan Vertonghen admitted after the game that the 3-0 win against Cercle Brugge was a flattering result. “In the second half we struggled to control the game and lost numerous duels,” he echoed. According to Vertonghen, there is an urgent need for improvement in the style of play, especially in view of the upcoming Champion's Play-Offs. The player stressed that Anderlecht must develop a more dominant game in order to be successful.


“I myself am not at top level yet, but it was crucial to play a full ninety-minute match in preparation for the playoffs,” he said of his own match.

“To win prizes at the end of the season, the team will have to increase the pace of play. Our opponents will already be determined not to give anything as a gift,” Vertonghen said.
