OTHER RSC Anderlecht has brought its second coach in six months to the door with the recent dismissal of David Hubert. Het Laatste Nieuws looked at the approach of president Wouter Vandenhaute. His methodology of direct intervention, regardless of the emotional impact, leads to a constant change of coaches and other executives within the club.
However, Vandenhaute is known for his pragmatic approach; when he sees no future in a situation, he does not hesitate to make rigorous decisions, according to the newspaper.
Other club leaders acknowledge that his sudden changes in direction seem chaotic, but also appreciate his flexibility and analytical ability. Vandenhaute is able to acknowledge and address his mistakes, which is seen as one of his greatest qualities. He also never makes decisions lightly, but always after consulting with other stakeholders (in this case, after consulting with Renard).
His direct style also contributed to Anderlecht's financial recovery in 2021. Vandenhaute managed to reconcile conflicting interests and became a shareholder of the club himself. Meanwhile, Anderlecht is financially healthy again, but on the sporting front, the pressure to achieve successes continues to grow.
With the Champions Playoffs on the horizon and the final of the Belgian Cup just around the corner, Vandenhaute seems to be considering another change of tack, hoping to finally win a prize after five years without trophies.
