OTHER Jan Vertonghen (37) is quitting soccer after this season. The Anderlecht captain and record international of the Red Devils announced the news himself in a video on Anderlecht's social media.
“In recent weeks it has become clear to me that these will be my last games. This is definitely not an easy decision, but the right one,” says Vertonghen. He also says that the physical discomforts are increasing and that it is becoming more and more difficult. Vertonghen now wants to give everything in the remaining matches and hopes to have some great moments with teammates and fans.
This season Vertonghen was injured for a long time, mainly due to an Achilles tendon problem. The captain is fit again, but caution is still needed. Vertonghen only played his first full game since early August against Cercle Brugge.
