U16 finish third at Algarve Elite Cup

YOUTH One week after the meritorious participation of the U13 in the Algarve Elite Cup, Anderlecht's U16 also participated this weekend in the tournament in Portugal, specifically for players born in 2009. Led by coach Yannick Kindermans, the team managed to win no less than five of the seven matches and remained undefeated, resulting in third place. Jayden Onia-Seke was awarded best player of the tournament. The U16 formation was bolstered by three players who previously became champions in the U15 category.


Taty Kera, Samory Kone and Noé Kagé contributed to the strong result and will remain in their category this season, besides for international U15 tournaments.

Despite five wins and an undefeated record, the Mauves may be disappointed with third place. The only “defeat” came in the semifinals, where they had to bow to Sporting Clube de Portugal during the penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw. This game was attended by Zeno Debast, who saw his younger brother Milan Debast at work.

The final ranking of the tournament shows Anderlecht in third place, behind Real Sociedad and Sporting.

Their matches in the group stage ended with a 0-0 against Braga, followed by a 1-0 win over Supra and a 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen. In the second round, they defeated Midtjylland 3-0 and FC Toluca 2-0.
