Vertonghen: "Lukaku is right to return"

INTERVIEWS Jan Vertonghen has announced he will end his career at the end of the season. Furthermore, he has not yet made a decision about his future. However, it is clear that he is not interested in a role as a trainer. Vertonghen will also not play against Genk due to insufficient fitness.


Currently, daily training is not possible for him, and any impact on his ankle leads to a setback in his recovery.

In addition, Vertonghen learned this week, as did RSC Anderlecht's supporters, that Romelu Lukaku is considering returning to the club in the summer of 2026. He supports this decision and had even hoped for a return in 2025. Vertonghen is convinced that Lukaku will be physically capable of making a valuable contribution, although he is aware that the striker will be judged on his goal production, something he believes Lukaku can handle well.
