INTERVIEWS On Thursday, fifteen minutes before the final whistle, Jan Vertonghen made his comeback. “I didn't have much training in the legs, but it was important to make minutes with an eye on the cup final and the rest of the season,” he said after the match.
So does that mean Vertongen will be in action in the cup final on Sunday? “That will depend on the coach,” the captain said. “I survived today, but the boys have also done very well in recent weeks. There will be consultation with the staff, but I will be in the selection.”
It may be clear that Vertonghen has not yet concluded his career in his mind. “There is still a lot to play for,” Vertonghen said. “I worked hard for this, but then that relapse came after the match against Cercle. We took the risk. I'm happy to be back with the group.”
