INTERVIEWS On the eve of the cup final, Anderlecht captain Jan Vertonghen has spoken out about his preparation and expectations. Despite having played only six games this season, he feels ready to play. “Yes, I played on Thursday and felt good,” Vertonghen said.
Given his limited playing time, the question arises whether it would be strange if he were in the starting lineup tomorrow. “It's an important decision. Above all, we have to maximize our chances of winning. We will see what my role will be,” he added.
Vertonghen sees Club Brugge as the favorites, but also noted that confidence is growing within the Anderlecht team due to the good results. “Brugge are favorites given the previous results and their performances in both the league and Europe. Nevertheless, we go into the final with a lot of confidence. It's a match in itself, and we have a strong selection with players who can make the difference.”
With 38 years of age, Vertonghen continues to dream of winning a prize. “I came to Anderlecht to give something to the supporters and the club. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's match. Winning would be fantastic. I want to give everything for this cup and am willing to take risks. We will do everything to win tomorrow.”
