OTHER Tomorrow is D-day for Besnik Hasi. Cup winning was the big objective Anderlecht Hasi set when it appointed him as coach in March. “For me, that was a unique opportunity,” Hasi reflects on the phone call he received at the time. “By the way, I only wanted to do this for Anderlecht, the club where I had worked for 15 years.”
Hasi was visiting his mother in Kosovo when Wouter Vandenhaute called him asking him to help Anderlecht. “I immediately got on a plane to Belgium,” he says of that moment.
A few years ago, Hasi was also able to return to Anderlecht. Vincent Kompany had asked him to join his staff, but Hasi did not accept at the time. The two still have a good relationship. “He had invited me to Bayern that week. Watch training, catch a match, chat about soccer. That didn't happen. Vincent called me by the way with congratulations.”
Romelu Lukaku also has Hasi's number. “After our defeat against Genk, he sent a message. He said he was at Neerpede the day after. We had a coffee together and talked about all kinds of things. About a return next season? He's still far too competitive for that. But it is certain he will return one day.”
