YOUTH The Belgian U17 will face France today at 6 p.m. in the semifinals of the European Championships. So after previous matches against England and Italy in the group stage, another tough challenge awaits Nathan De Cat and his teammates. De Cat, Anderlecht's 16-year-old midfielder, has already gained experience in the playoffs and also scored against Antwerp. Under coach David Hubert, he made his European debut against Fenerbahçe in February.

With his training in Neerpede, De Cat is a defensive midfielder who can also play as a central defender. One scout describes him as difficult to categorize, but compares his style of play to that of Sergio Busquets. “He is always accessible and always finds a solution under pressure. Despite his height, you should not underestimate his technique,” the scout said.

Anderlecht realize that with De Cat they have a valuable player on their hands. Despite interest from Ajax, he signed his first professional contract in October 2023, which was already extended last September.

A key player in the Belgian team, De Cat, along with the rest of the squad, must be at his best tonight to beat the French and qualify for the final of the European Championship.

The semifinals begin in Elbasan with France - Belgium, followed by Italy - Portugal in Tirana. Bob Browaeys, the coach of the Belgian U17, expressed his pride: “We dreamed of reaching the last four. It's incredible for the players who worked so hard. We are a small country, but again we are among three great soccer countries. I congratulated them for their efforts.”
