TRANSFERS Rumors of West Ham's interest in Mario Stroeykens have been growing strong in recent days. The Englishmen want to replace Paqueta, who has run into all sorts of extrasport issues, and Stroeykens is candidate number one. However, Paqueta must be effectively sold first, and that is an expensive bird. So West Ham is unlikely to take immediate concrete action.
English media and insiders claim, however, that the club would be willing to put some ten million euros on the table for Supermario. However, that is only half of what Anderlecht effectively has in mind. So a quick transfer is not in the cards; or at least not to West Ham.
As a reminder, Stroeykens does not have to leave the club either. There are still contract extensions and upgrades waiting for him, but the player is not biting. Given his contact expires next year, Anderlecht is forced to sell him. However, the club would like to set an example to other young players who want to force a transfer in the same way, deliberately setting the price relatively high.
