INTERVIEWS Today, Anderlecht leaves for a week in the Netherlands to prepare for the new season. Coach Besnik Hasi will make it hard. "I am tougher than last season," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "On the field I am strict, but also in the talks."
It is clear Hasi is setting the bar high this season. "We have qualities, but the players have to get better," the coach states. Among other things, he talks about fitness and doggedness. Because, he says, an analysis was made after last season and it showed that last season the team lacked things like intensity, speed, mentality. So Hasi is now putting everyone on edge from day one. "The guys have to get on board and push each other," he says.

Continue reading What Hasi also missed last season: speed on the flanks. With Ibrahima Kanaté and newcomer Ilay Camara, he is already seeing progress there. "You can already see that Kanaté forces the opponent backwards with his sprint," said the coach. Who is also making a good impression this preparation is Luis Vasquez. The Argentine already scored in all three practice matches. "Moreover, he works hard for the team," said Hasi.
After the training camp, Hasi will make a first selection. Especially for the midfield, a lot of players are currently there. "Verschaeren, Leoni, Stroeykens and Rits all four have only one-year contracts left. We anticipated their departure. Their successors are already there," Hasi said, though indicating that the foursome is currently giving their all.
In total, more than 30 players will go on training camp. "Better to have too many than too few. I want mutual struggle. Everyone has to think 'Will I play?' But I will have to disappoint players after the training camp. There won't be a place for everyone. It's up to me to bring cohesion."
