OTHER Anderlecht will face Sheriff Tiraspol in the third qualifying round of the Conference League. The first leg will take place at Lotto Park, but the venue for the second leg is still uncertain due to geopolitical tensions. Sheriff Tiraspol is located in the troubled region of Transnistria, which borders Ukraine. The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has designated this region as high-risk due to the war in Ukraine.
Therefore, RSCA has indicated that it is undesirable for the second leg to take place in Tiraspol, thereby following the recommendations of the Belgian authorities.
The club has requested a change of venue from UEFA, similar to a previous decision whereby FC Utrecht, with the support of the Dutch government, was allowed to play its match against Sheriff elsewhere. So far, UEFA has not approved this change and is sticking with Tiraspol as the venue for the match on August 14.
Alternative venues are being considered, including the stadium in Nisporeni, near the Romanian border, and the national stadium in Chisinau, which is also considered an option.
