GAMES In August, Anderlecht proposed to postpone the game against AA Ghent. The idea was that the club could prepare more ideally for the clash with AEK Athens in the Conference League. Nonetheless, the Mauves were eliminated after a draw at home and a 2-0 defeat in Greece.
Both side have been looking for a new date to play the game and that date has been found. The match against AA Ghent has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 23, at 8:30 PM at Lotto Park. A Tuesday is not ideal for many fans due to traffic around Brussels, but it was about the only option in the busy calendar, despite the European elimination. Continue reading For Anderlecht it will be a difficult match. Ghent is a tough opponent and the Mauves recently lost Dolberg to Ajax while Goto was loaned to STVV. Meanwhile striker Bertaccini got injured and underwent surgery. This leaves Vazquez, earlier placed on the transfer list, the only available striker in the selection. The transfer market is still open in Belgium but newcomers won't be eligable to play this match anyway.
Nonetheless, the match is important for Anderlecht. After an unexpected loss against Zulte Waregem at home and the defeat against Union, Anderlecht lost its place at the top of the table and took a rather bad start in the new season. Another defeat, against a competitor for a place in the Champions Play-offs, won't be acceptable for the fans. With the club already being unstable after the European elimination and the resignation of chairman Wouter Vandenhaute, it should really try to avoid another blow to the morale.
