GAMES Can we have a little more, please? Anderlecht delivered a soporific performance against a well-defending Antwerp. The Purple & White had a lot of possession, but couldn't do anything with it. They barely created any chances throughout the entire match. Anderlecht did have to do without Hazard, who was injured during the warm-up. Another two points lost, this time against a mediocre Antwerp.
There was very little to see before halftime. One of the highlights was even a black cat running across the field.

Continue reading Anderlecht had most of the possession, but didn't know what to do with it. They had good intentions, but played too sloppily and too slowly to create any real chances. Antwerp kept everything tight at the back and came out more as the first half progressed. It did create a few chances. Janssen shot wide on the run and Somers hit the post with the best chance.
After the break, there was even less to see. Immediately after the break, Vazquez did get a chance to shoot, but the finish was poor, even though it was from a sharp angle. The game continued quietly, but Anderlecht was not dangerous. The purple and white lacked ingenuity, precision, and simply the class to be dangerous. No shots, no depth, hardly any combinations, hardly any crosses. And as we know, a certain Dolberg is no longer around to kick in that one chance.
In the 70th minute, Huerta had another shot, but he couldn't find the far corner. In the 84th minute, the young Cvetkovic replaced Vazquez, but the Serbian was also unable to make an impact.
A bad performance from Anderlecht, who failed to show any creativity and were unable to compensate for this collectively. In addition, Huerta and Saliba received another yellow card, meaning they will soon have five. Anderlecht now has to work hard in the coming week against Gent and OHL to avoid slipping down the table. It now has 11 out of 21, which are not figures to get excited about. Or is this simply the level of this core?
