OTHER 18-year-old Mihajlo Cvetkovic secured Anderlecht a crucial victory in Sunday's Clasico against Standard. The young Serbian came on late and had barely been on the pitch for a minute when he reacted alertly to a shot from Verschaeren. His goal proved decisive.
“It was a very important goal in a difficult game,” the striker said afterwards. “The three points mean a lot to us. How does it feel to score my first goal? It's hard to describe, but I'm especially proud.”
Cvetkovic replaced the once again inconsistent Vazquez. When asked if he is ready to take over the role of first striker, he remained noncommittal. “I don't know. I have to keep working and get even better. But the coach knows what he has in me. Personally, I think I'm ready to start in the starting lineup. And of course to score more goals—after all, that's my job. I like to score.”
