INTERVIEWS Gilles De Bilde is concerned about the current situation at RSC Anderlecht. According to him, the club is declining year after year. De Bilde is particularly critical of the role of Wouter Vandenhaute, who still has a blocking minority. “That is very annoying and needs to be resolved,” he says. De Bilde points to the constant changes within the club, which he believes lead to a lack of stability.
De Bilde therefore advocates a clear course of action to get the club back on track: “Changing direction every time there is a new coach is counterproductive.”
De Bilde also openly wonders whether the club will still reach the top under Marc Coucke: “Perhaps a change of ownership is the best solution, as Coucke is apparently no longer willing to invest.”
De Bilde does not believe that the return of Romelu Lukaku will solve all the problems. According to him, it is essential to appoint new people with knowledge of football and the club. “Union's successes cannot be replicated at Anderlecht; the pressure on the record champion is simply too high for that,” he says.
De Bilde also takes a dim view of the current season. He does not expect RSCA to finish in the top three, as he considers the quality of the squad to be insufficient. The lack of a good striker also compromises the team's striking power, he argues.
