Anderlecht appears to be opting for a non-executive chairman

OTHER Sporting Anderlecht still has no chairman after Vandenhaute's departure. It is now clear that Coucke himself will not return to the position of president. According to certain sources, the club will opt for a purely ceremonial chairman. Behind the scenes, the name of Michael Verschueren is therefore being mentioned more and more often.


The 55-year-old plays an important role within the European Club Association (ECA) and wants to retain it. Verschueren therefore left the RSCA board of directors in 2023 to guarantee his independence. His possible return as ceremonial president seems to appeal to some members of the club.

However, Vandenhaute retains a blocking minority through his company Mauvavie, and his relationship with Verschueren is far from optimal. The choice of a new president will therefore require a delicate balancing act between power relations, personal ambitions, and strategic vision. So it remains to be seen what the outcome will be...
