DAMES The purple and white ladies pulled off quite a feat tonight. After a 1-1 draw at home, they faced a difficult task against Portuguese side Braga. But after 120 minutes of football, they came out on top: 2-3 and qualification!
Braga started best, however, and quickly took the lead with a penalty. Just before half-time, Vanzeir equalized.
The match was fairly balanced after that, but Braga took the lead again. As time ticked away, Anderlecht really had to go for it. And the final offensive paid off. Delabre made it 2-2. Anderlecht continued their momentum, but could not avoid extra time.
The two extra halves brought no separation between the two teams until the very last second: Delabre wanted to cross, but the Portuguese goalkeeper misjudged the ball: 2-3 and qualification for the main table of the Europa Cup.
Anderlecht's biggest rival, OHL, also did very well in the Champions League: after a 2-2 draw in Paris, they beat Twente 2-1. Belgian women's football had been stuck in the tough European qualifying rounds for years, but now suddenly has two success stories.
