OTHER Michael Verschueren (55) will be the new chairman of the record champion, a position his father—the legendary Michel Verschueren—always dreamed of for his son.
Michel “Mister Michel” Verschueren was the face of purple and white for decades and passed on his love for the club to his son. As a teenager, Michael even helped build the stadium. He later became general manager in 2018, but his tenure ended prematurely after sporting setbacks and tensions within the board.
After several years away and a restored friendship with owner Marc Coucke, Verschueren is now returning. He will become the ceremonial chairman, alongside Kenneth Bornauw, who will take on the day-to-day management as CEO.
A symbolic comeback, then, heralding a new chapter for Anderlecht. “His father would have been proud,” is the word in the club corridors.
