FLASHBACK On October 17, 2011, a highlight was made at the Vanden Stock Stadium: Anderlecht completely dismantled a powerless Standard and won 5-0. Jovanovic, Gillet, Mbokani, Suarez, and Wasilewski from a penalty scored the goals of the evening. Standard was actually quite lucky, as Ciman clearly cleared the ball off the goal line on what would have been the 2-0, but neither the referee nor the linesman said a word.
With Jovanovic and Mbokani, Anderlecht also had two former Standard strikers in their ranks who were scoring abundantly. That season, ball virtuoso Matias Suarez also emerged. Anderlecht would go on to become champions that season, with a last-minute penalty goal by Gillet against direct rival Club Brugge (1-1, which was enough).
The 5-0 victory in 2011 was the biggest post-war home win against Standard, alongside the 6-1 victory in the 1952-1953 season. Standard would finish fifth that year after the playoffs.
