INTERVIEWS After months of rehabilitation following a knee surgery, Adriano Bertaccini (25) is ready to play for Anderlecht again — possibly against his former club STVV. During this difficult period, he found support in his older brother Paolino (27), with whom he played side by side for years at Charleroi, Standard, Club Brugge, Genk, and Deinze.
The brothers are very alike, not only in appearance but also in mentality. “We never give up,” says Paolino, who now plays for UR Namur. “Adriano fought for his place. He dared to return to the lower leagues to relaunch his career — and look where he is now.”
Their path has not always been easy. Language problems, disappointments, and difficult periods at clubs such as Genk and Cercle led to temporary detours. Nevertheless, Adriano continued to score, even when he found his second wind at STVV under Felice Mazzu.
According to his brother, Adriano is now mentally stronger than ever: “He has matured. If he continues on this path, he could really explode at Anderlecht.”
