Will Verschaeren be leaving in January?

TRANSFERS Yari Verschaeren may be in his final months in Brussels. The midfielder still has no prospect of a contract extension. According to Het Nieuwsblad, the club is very unlikely to make a new offer. Verschaeren's performances are reportedly no longer commensurate with his salary, which is among the club's highest. There hasn't been much interest from domestic or international clubs.


There is currently some vague interest from the Dutch Eredivisie, but nothing concrete. There was a recent rumor that Trabzonspor wanted to make a move during the winter, but that story has since faded. During the summer, names of clubs from bigger leagues, such as Werder Bremen, Leicester City, FC Augsburg, and FC Köln, were also mentioned. In Belgium, OH Leuven and Westerlo were also mentioned.

Regardless, Anderlecht will barely earn anything from a transfer. If a transfer does happen in January, the fee will likely be less than one million. Verschaeren's current market value is €4 million. This figure is in stark contrast to his market value at eighteen: €16 million (in 2019, when Verschaeren briefly played for Belgium). Verschaeren is also not currently a starter at Anderlecht. He starts only 27% of the time and has played 39% of all available minutes.
