TRANSFERS Anderlecht is working on extending Nathan De Cat's contract, but keeping him will not be easy. Sports director Olivier Renard is well aware of this. “Actually, he should be a regular player with us for another two years, but in modern football, young players are taken away so quickly.”

De Cat still has a contract until mid-2027. “Before people start saying ‘Sign him for five years with the highest salary,' I have to point out that we can only offer him one extra year, until 2028,” Renard says, referring to the legislation that stipulates that players under the age of 18 cannot be signed for more than three seasons.

Other factors will also determine De Cat's future at Anderlecht. Renard refers to whether Anderlecht will qualify for European football and how much hype there will be around the player.
