Coosemans hesitates about revised contract proposal

OTHER Colin Coosemans has been wearing the Anderlecht jersey for more than four years now, but extending his contract does not seem to be a priority for the time being — certainly not under the conditions currently being offered by the Purple & White.
When Coosemans moved to Anderlecht in 2021, he could hardly have imagined that a few seasons later he would become a key player. After long periods as a substitute and even a spectator in the stands, he is now the regular number one and captain.

Both last season and last summer, there were rumors that Anderlecht was looking for a new goalkeeper, but Coosemans remained in place each time. This summer, he will enter the final year of his contract. He will then be 34. An extension is negotiable, but the club is sticking to stricter financial agreements.
Renard: “Proposal fits within new salary structure” Sports director Olivier Renard confirmed to La Dernière Heure that an offer has already been made. “Colin has not accepted our proposal, which dates back to the end of last season. That is his prerogative,” he said.
Renard emphasizes that the goalkeeper is part of the group of players who still have contracts under the old, more expensive structure. “What we are offering him now is fully in line with the new contracts. And those are still very fair terms. He has to decide. There is no rush: he is under contract until 2027, we are happy with him, and he is our captain.”
Wage bill must be reduced Coosemans is therefore welcome to stay, but under a downwardly adjusted wage package. Renard knows the goalkeeper from their time together at KV Mechelen, where Coosemans competed with Jean-François Gillet and Anthony Moris, among others. Nevertheless, he is not deviating from his policy: the wage bill must be further reduced, and the captain is no exception.
