OTHER In addition to his role with the first team, Silvio Proto is also working on an ambitious project within Anderlecht's youth academy. As goalkeeper coordinator, he wants to develop a clear development path for young goalkeepers.
The goal is to create a structured method in which talented goalkeepers are individually coached and their progress is closely monitored. “We want to establish a long-term vision and help young goalkeepers grow step by step,” Proto explains.
He already sees several promising talents within the youth academy, such as Mattis Seghers and Kamiel Timmermans. Nevertheless, the search for new talent continues. Anderlecht wants to re-establish itself as a top club for young goalkeepers.
The ambition goes even further. Proto hopes that Anderlecht will eventually surpass the reputation of clubs such as Racing Genk in terms of goalkeeper training. “It should be a dream for young goalkeepers to play for Anderlecht,” he says.
According to Proto, the ultimate success of the project would be when a youth product becomes the first goalkeeper of the first team. However, he does not want to force that process. “A young goalkeeper should only get his chance when he is really ready.”
