OTHER Silvio Proto remains closely involved with RSC Anderlecht. The former goalkeeper and club icon is currently part of the coaching staff and speaks with confidence about interim coach Jérémy Taravel. According to Proto, the team under Taravel has the potential both to reach the Champions' Play-offs and to win the Belgian Cup. Proto originally joined the staff because extra support was needed.

When Edward Still took over from Besnik Hasi, the ex-goalkeeper was asked to work more closely with the squad. Later, Taravel asked him to stay on the bench as an assistant. Proto says the new coach has had an important influence on the group. “In training you can see the players and the coach growing closer,” he explains.

He particularly praises the way Taravel treats his squad. “Everyone feels they're close to a starting spot. That makes every player feel involved.” The former captain stresses that a broad squad is important for success, pointing to his time at Lazio, where Simone Inzaghi, in his view, handled his group masterfully. “You have eleven starters, but it's often the substitutes who decide matches.”

Proto prefers to stay in the background, but he notices the atmosphere around the team improving. If that trend continues, he believes Anderlecht can once again compete for trophies.
