OTHER What a difference from last season: then Anderlecht managed only 1 point out of 36 against Club Brugge, Union and Genk. This season it's entirely different: against the current top three Anderlecht has picked up 11 of 18. Against Club Brugge it even holds the upper hand with 4 of 6. The home matches against Club Brugge (1-0), Union (1-0) and STVV (2-1) were all won.
Away, Anderlecht lost early in the season 2-0 at Union. In Sint-Truiden and in Bruges they drew 2-2. Last weekend Anderlecht even looked for a long time on course for 6 out of 6 against Club. What a contrast with last season. Then Anderlecht collected just one point in 12 matches against the top three: 0-0 away at Union.
The goal difference of -19 told its own story. If we zoom out to the matches against the other teams in the top six this season, Anderlecht is doing well there too. Against Club, Union, STVV, KV Mechelen and AA Gent Anderlecht has 17 of 27. Together with Union, Anderlecht tops this head-to-head table. STVV has 16 points from these mutual duels. Club Brugge only 11.
These figures are encouraging for the play-offs and for the cup final. Mathematically Anderlecht is not yet certain of Play-Off 1; it needs one more point to be completely sure.
