FLASHBACK At the end of August 2009, the unhealthy rivalry between Anderlecht and Standard reached a shocking peak: Axel Witsel delivered a criminal tackle on right-back Marcin Wasilewski, resulting in a double open leg fracture. Almost a year and six surgeries later, Wasilewski made his comeback at the highest level.
On 8th May 2010, in the home match against STVV, he was given a few symbolic minutes on the pitch amid loud encouragement from the crowd. At that time, Wasyl was not yet 100% fit and would only truly return the following season. Wasilewski appeared 145 times for Anderlecht and scored 20 goals.
He later transferred to Leicester City in England, where he won the Premier League. He ended his career in 2020 at Polish club Kraków. He also earned 60 caps for Poland.
