INTERVIEWS Nathan De Cat is fit again, and all of Anderlecht is hoping he will take the team by the hand tomorrow and steer them to victory in the Belgian Cup final. Will that be his farewell gift to Anderlecht? With one year left on his contract, a departure this summer seems almost inevitable. "But fans may still hope I'll stay," he tells Het Nieuwsblad today.

In September 2024 De Cat extended his deal with Anderlecht until 2027, the longest term allowed for a minor at the time. Last autumn Anderlecht tried to tie him down for an extra year, but so far no agreement has been reached. His father said in March that re-signing was not a priority because it would not add value. "I'm the one who has to put my signature to it, not my dad," De Cat says with a wink. "Re-signing isn't a must, because I still have a contract for one season. I can stay like this."

Anderlecht, of course, would prefer otherwise; if nothing changes, De Cat would walk out for free in 2027. "Maybe I will sign, that's also an option," he adds. "I can't guarantee I'll still be playing for Anderlecht next season. Everything is open." According to Het Nieuwsblad, De Cat's entourage has already held talks with several clubs, but the player himself says he has not spoken to anyone yet. "I focus on the here and now; the rest is pointless."
