YOUTH The Belgian U17s got off to a fine start at the European Championship in Estonia, beating Croatia 2-0. Three Anderlecht players were in the starting lineup and three more came on as substitutes. Jayden Onia Seke (photo) was involved in both goals, and goalkeeper Mattis Seghers also put in a strong performance. After nine minutes Onia Seke intercepted a poor back pass, ran forward and struck the post.
Genk midfielder Jelle Driessen (active at Anderlecht between 2021 and 2024) followed up well and opened the scoring. A few minutes later Onia Seke swung in a cross from his left flank and Antwerp player Tinus Moorthamer doubled the lead. The two goals proved sufficient for the win, not least because Seghers kept a solid clean sheet thereafter. Onia Seke started the match alongside Seghers and deep-lying forward Ilias Benktib; Onia Seke was withdrawn after 85 minutes, Benktib in added time. Noa Kalonji and Joshua Nga Kana came on after 74 minutes, Rune Verstrepen after 85. Noa Cobiella was the seventh Anderlecht player on the bench.
