
TRANSFERS Next on the list of transfer rumours is Omar Rekik (24) from Maribor. Rekik is in Tunisia's World Cup squad and was already linked to Anderlecht last May. That move did not materialise. Rekik is now in the final year of his contract and Maribor is not inclined to offer an extension.
Rekik nevertheless played in 27 matches and accumulated more than 2,000 minutes this season, but the Slovenian club is in bad shape and urgently looking for cash. A transfer for Rekik is therefore possible. His market value is estimated at half a million. How plausible is this news? The original source is the Slovenian Nogomania. There is a chance this is simply reheated news. As noted before, Rekik was already linked to Anderlecht last year. Knowing that the purple-and-whites are seeking defensive reinforcements, it's easy to resurrect that story.
Rekik's contract situation makes him a convenient candidate to link to Anderlecht. Moreover, the player has worn many clubs' colours in his past, notably in the youth setups of PSV, Manchester City, Arsenal and Marseille. That Rekik will leave his current club this summer therefore seems realistic given the circumstances. But whether that move would be to Anderlecht is very much open to question.
