INJURIES That Vítor Bruno has only limited experience as a head coach was no obstacle for sporting director Antoine Sibierski. On the contrary, the Frenchman is convinced that the Portuguese is an ideal fit for Anderlecht's new direction. During the search, Sibierski spoke with several candidates, including Alfred Schreuder. But according to him, Bruno made the strongest impression from the very first conversations.
Above all, it was his personality, leadership and clear vision of football that tipped the balance. According to the sporting director, a coach can learn as much in a few months at the helm of FC Porto as he might elsewhere in several seasons. He also gathered positive references from people who had previously worked with Bruno. The new coach is also bringing his own technical staff to Brussels. Together, they are expected to develop a clear football philosophy built on dominant play, a strong work ethic and discipline. The first major test will follow quickly, with the European qualifying tie against Hammarby on 23 July.
