OTHER Anderlecht is keeping a close eye on the condition of the pitch at Lotto Park in the build-up to the second leg against Hammarby in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. On Thursday, July 30, the purple and white will host the Swedes, but the field is still not in ideal condition. For a moment, a move to the King Baudouin Stadium was considered, although that option has since been definitively ruled out. The problems stem from the second phase of the extensive renovation of the playing surface, a €1.3 million investment that began last year.
After hybrid grass was installed earlier, the pitch had to be completely reseeded this summer. However, the succession of a heatwave and heavy thunderstorms has slowed the grass growth. Despite everything, optimism remains at Anderlecht. Thanks to the forecast of milder temperatures, the club expects the pitch to be ready for play in time for the European tie, although it realises the surface will still not be in perfect condition by then.
