OTHER Former Anderlecht player Massimo Bruno has retired from football at the age of 32. He announced the news on Instagram a short while ago. Bruno broke through at Anderlecht at the age of 19 under coach John van den Brom. Afterwards, he never quite managed to live up to expectations.
Bruno joined Anderlecht in 2011 as an 18-year-old from Charleroi, where he had already spent four years in the youth ranks. He would remain there for three seasons, which earned him a transfer to the Red Bull stable. After first cutting his teeth at Red Bull Salzburg, he moved on to RB Leipzig. He failed to make a major impact at the German club, followed by a two-year loan spell at Anderlecht from 2016 to 2018. His second stint in purple-and-white was not as successful as his first. After 2018, he also had spells at Charleroi, Bursaspor, Kortrijk and most recently Franc Borains. Bruno played a total of 148 matches for Anderlecht, in which he scored 32 goals and provided 26 assists.
