INTERVIEWS Following Anderlecht's impressive 0-1 win against PAOK, the Brussels club immediately turns its attention to Sunday's league clash with La Louvière. According to coach Vitor Bruno, however, that fixture comes too soon after the European tie. The Portuguese therefore believes Belgian football should consider adjusting the calendar. Bruno pointed out that his team has less than three days to prepare for its next match.
In his view, that is far from ideal, especially for clubs combining European football with domestic competition. “It is not a demand, but it is something we need to think seriously about,” said the Anderlecht coach. “I don't understand why there is never any football in Belgium on Mondays. European teams need better protection. We have less than 72 hours between two matches, and that will happen to us several more times this season.” The coach warned that the limited recovery time significantly increases the risk of injuries. He is therefore calling for the issue to be put on the table. “If we want our clubs to perform as well as possible in Europe, we need to have this debate. This is not just about Anderlecht, but about all Belgian teams that play on Thursdays. In the end, it is in the interest of Belgian football.”
