TRANSFERS Romelu Lukaku is about to leave Napoli for Fenerbahçe. From Anderlecht's perspective, the key question is how long he will sign for in Turkey. Media reports now suggest that Lukaku will sign a one-season contract with an option for an additional year.
Lukaku has stated on several occasions that he wants to return to Anderlecht as a player one day to end his career there. It was generally assumed that this would happen in 2027, when his contract with Napoli expires. Now that Lukaku is leaving Napoli, attention has turned to the duration of his contract with his new club.
With a one-season contract, the possibility remains open for him to return to Anderlecht in a year (on a free transfer). However, the option year does present a catch. If Lukaku performs well, Anderlecht may have to wait an extra year.
