FLASHBACK Anderlecht was allowed to compete in Europe for the first time, in the European Cup I. Their opponent was Vörös Lobogó, the club that would later become MTK Budapest FC. The purple and whites took the lead 1-0 through Vanderwilt in the seventh minute (Anderlecht's first ever European goal), but just one minute later, the score was already level again.

The Hungarians quickly pulled ahead to 3-1, and Van den Bosch reduced the deficit to 3-2 before halftime.

That same Van den Bosch would also score to make it 4-3, but in the final moments, the Eastern Europeans added two more goals, making it 6-3.

The return match in Brussels on October 19 also ended in a 1-4 loss. Van den Bosch scored the only purple and white goal (the 1-1 equalizer after 38 minutes).
